Returnal PC port

Returnal confirmed going to PC in early 2023

Bringing exclusives over.

It was all but confirmed that the third-person shooter Returnal would eventually head to PC and Steam. A SteamDB listing uncovered earlier this year hinted that this previous Playstation 5 exclusive would no longer be so and come to PC. Now, as announced in the 2022 Game Awards, this news was explicitly confirmed. The third-person shooter roguelike from Housemarque and Sony Interactive Entertainment, Returnal, is coming to Steam, and it is coming soon. (TM.)

This shooter includes roguelike and psychological horror elements, taking place in a sci-fi world. You play Selene Vassos, a space pilot who finds herself stuck in a time loop on the planet Atropos. Unlike a Groundhog Day or Happy Death Day, when Selene is revived, you’ll find that the world is constantly changing instead of staying the same. Aside from roguelike elements, there are platforming elements and exploration as well, covering the entire gauntlet. There are tons of weapons in the game and even a sick grappling hook that lets you shoot across different rooms.

Return to Atropos

Returnal‘s arrival to PC is in line with Sony’s overall commitment to porting over their exclusive games. A GQ interview with Playstation president Jim Ryan stated “there’s an opportunity to expose those great games to a wider audience and recognize the economics of game development, which are not always straightforward,” referring to bringing games to more than one platform rather than keeping it on one system. The studio Nixxes Software was also acquired by Sony, known for bringing older games to PC.

Returnal will arrive on PC in early 2023, although an official release date has not been announced yet. You can break the cycle once the game drops early next year, but if you aren’t familiar with Returnal and its time-looping gameplay, check out the official announcement trailer below.
