Hero Mastery Mode in Overwatch 2 – Explained

The best way to learn a new skill is on the job.

Each new season of Overwatch 2 is packed in with a lot of new stuff to keep the game going. For Season 6, it seems like Blizzard Entertainment has opened up the floodgates. With new expansions such as paid story missions and a new mode in the Hero Mastery Mode, Season 6 is quite busy. While a lot of Season’s content is already out, this particular mode won’t be available till September 6th. Before jumping into the Hero Mastery mode of Overwatch 2, this guide will explain all the juicy details.

Overwatch 2: Hero Mastery Mode – Explained

Not to mix up with the already-in-place Hero Progression system that tracks how you play each character, Hero Mastery Mode is quite different. First, it’s a mode separate from the base game. So to participate, you must play this section. Second, it acts way to practice with heroes and get better. At the time of writing this guide, Blizzard is only releasing Reinhardt, Mercy, Tracer, Sojourn, and Winston. But it does seem like more heroes could be added in later seasons of Overwatch 2. As more heroes make their way to this mode, we could see Hero Mastery Mode become quite expansive.

Every mode will be different and each course will be tailored made for specific characters. So if you play as Tracer, for example, the course will be around her strengths. Additionally, each course will be a time attack, so you must do them in the time allotted. To add a competitive edge to the mode, there will also be global leaderboards that you and your friends can compete in. While the Hero Mastery Mode is a great method for honing your skills, it’s another way to earn some bragging rights.

Note that since Hero Mastery Mode is on its own and in practice range, everything you do stays self-contained and does not impact your progress in the base game. So play as much as you desire.
