When you’re the one being targeted by this water prison, you may find it a lot easier to avoid it. You’ll notice right before the Terror of the Deep pulls this move, a red warning will pop up and you’ll see the words “Water Cell.” Now that you know what’s about to hit you, press Circle at the right time to dodge out of the way. Dodge either to the left or right.

But what about your teammates? This can be trickier since you can’t control them all the time. But there are some ways you can avoid this. If you notice the Terror of the Deep targeting Water Cell towards a party member that’s not you, try triggering a Syngery Skill.

For example, let’s say you’re controlling Cloud, and Tifa is being targeted. Hold “R1” to see if Cloud and Tifa have a Synergy Skill together. These are different from the Synergy Abilities that take time to charge up. Synergy Skills are free to use at any time, and the other party member will immediately teleport to your location upon triggering it. This could be a good solution to avoid being hit, as this causes them to immediately move out of the way.

Otherwise, there aren’t many ways you can avoid Water Cell if you aren’t in control of that character. You could try immediately switching to be in control of that character to then attempt a dodge, but that may take too long. Try to swap between characters often so the Terror of the Deep constantly feels like changing targets for attacks.
