How to beat Magister Dullain in Remnant 2

Please don't lick me.

As I took my usual leisurely stroll through the peaceful halls of Losmomn in Remnant 2, I came across Magister Dullian. This horrific visage ruined my morning constitutional and required far more work to dispatch than I expected. Vomit, flying bodies, and vicious lashings from its tongue preceded its death. I was then able to continue on, but first, here is how I defeated Magister Dullain in Remnant 2.

How to defeat Magister Dullain in Remnant 2

Expect a fight here. Magister Dullain has a nasty habit of area denial, and the arena isn’t that big. You’re going to have to keep your wits about you as you move around the area. This optional boss, located in the Shattered Gallery in Losomn, is a tricky one to defeat but well worth your time. Here are the attacks to keep an eye out for and how to avoid them.

Attack pattern

  • Vomit – This one denies access to certain areas of the small space. Magister Dullain will fire a ball of vomit at you. This in itself is easy enough to avoid, but you will have to remember where it is because even rolling through it will damage your health. Stick to the opposite side until it fades.
  • Energy Ball – A burning ball fires from the lantern. This is not a weak spot, as I thought, so don’t bother focusing your fire. It will inflict burning damage, but, again, it is easy enough to avoid with a well-timed roll.
  • Ground Slam –  Magister Dullain will slam the ground in Remnant 2, raising bodies from the ground and damaging anyone in the radius. The bodies will then be thrown as projectiles. This is annoying in itself, but it is also usually paired with the next move, which can be a distraction.
  • Summon – Enemies are summoned from the walls. I would recommend getting rid of these in Remnant 2 as quickly as possible so you can focus back on Magister Dullain again. Try to keep a pillar between you and the boss.
  • Tongue Lash – By far the most devastating attack. Magister Dillain will flop out its long tongue and try and whip you with it. Time your dodge well, or you may end up being impaled for a rage-inducing one-hit-kill. Pay attention; the tongue is Magister Dullains weak spot, so empty those clips while you dare.

Method to defeat Magister Dullain

I would recommend keeping your distance from the boss. The ground slam and vomit can cause serious damage. Use the pillars to keep some distance and hopefully block the ranged attacks.

Dispatch the summoned enemies as quickly as possible. This will remove any distractions from Magister Dullain in Remnant 2. Finally, as soon as you hear that tongue attack audio cue, pay close attention; it is both the best opportunity for major damage and for your own death. Finally, try to use some status effect rounds. I used burning bullets. I found that as I ducked and dodged, the perpetual damage made a huge difference.

Remnant 2 Rewards for defeating Magister Dullain

Although the fight is optional and quite a task, it is all worth it in the end when you receive Scrap, x3 Lumenite Crystal, Tome of Knowledge, and Tainted Ichor. The Tainted Ichor is used to make Corrosive rounds which pack a hell of a punch over a good period of time.
