How to catch Zorua in Pokémon GO

Whoa, another shiny?! Hold on a second--

Zorua is one of two Pokémon in Pokemon GO that doesn’t appear to be all it seems. But it’s the classic and cute illusion fox from generation five, so who wouldn’t want to have one in their phone? If you are in need of the cuddly fox, here’s how to catch Zorua in Pokemon GO.

Finding and catching Zorua in Pokemon GO

Ditto and Zorua share the same mechanic in Pokemon GO. If you see a Zorua pop up nearby on your map, you are not going to see a Zorua appear. What you will see, instead, is whatever Pokémon is currently set as your walking buddy. Now, if you have a relatively normal Pokemon as your partner, you might assume it’s just another one of those and keep walking. This is why if you’re hunting for Zorua, you need to set your buddy to be a legendary or a shiny Pokémon. When you see one of those pop up on the map, you’ll know immediately something is up. Shiny Pokémon do not have a shiny appearance on the overworld, and legendaries don’t just appear in the wild, either.

When you click on the mimic in the overworld, it will enter the catch screen still just like that. You will need to catch your clearly real duplicate of your buddy Pokémon. Once it’s caught, text pops up saying ‘Oh?’ and the Pokémon turns back into Zorua. As stated before, though, both Ditto and Zorua will take on the appearance of your current Pokémon, so even if you find your buddy Pokémon in the wild, you might end up with a Ditto instead. There’s no way to tell which except to check the list of which Pokémon are nearby. If you only see Ditto or Zorua being shown, then that’s which one you’re seeing.

Zorua is a very rare spawn, so it may take a while to catch Zorua in Pokemon GO. But don’t give up! Even rare spawns will come eventually. I’ve found multiple almost back-to-back just walking around my neighborhood, so who knows what could happen?
