By default, the transmission is set to automatic. To change to this head to Forza Motorsport’s settings. Make sure you’re in the Driving Assists tab, when you’re in this subsection, scroll down and look for Shifting. Switch to the third option which is Manual with Clutch. Once you’re done, hit escape. You’ll be asked to save your changes when you do.

How to shift gears

To shift gears in a race, on a keyboard press Numpad 9. By pressing Numpad 7, you’ll downshift. So this puts you in more control of the car. When you’re going down tracks like Hakone Circuit which has some tight corners, being able to shift down quickly can help you maintain the turn. To use the clutch, press Numpad 8, and shift at the right time. If you don’t, your car will hate you and make you shift slower. Just like real cars, you have to hear the engine winding up in each gear.
