Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – how to evolve Chansey into Blissey

Chansey is a pretty rare Pokémon, despite appearing throughout large swaths of Paldea (see the screenshot below for a map of its habitats). If it spots you, it will likely run away rather than engage you in combat. Even when you engage, you may have to go through a few of your more costly Pokeballs to catch one. The process works like so:

  1. Find Chansey in one of the environments indicated in orange below (I most recently found him on the north edge of the Asado Desert).
  2. Engage Chansey in combat. This is easiest if you surprise it while riding your mount.
  3. Weaken Chansey with one of your mid-range team members at about the same level. Don’t use a powerful Pokémon or Super Effective move that’s likely to defeat Chansey in a single hit.
  4. Throw a suitable Pokeball. Higher grade ones, such as Ultra Balls, work best. If the battle goes on long enough, a Timer Ball can give you an edge.
  5. Keep trying until you catch it.

Once you succeed in capturing Chansey, evolving it will take some doing. To evolve Chansey into Blissey, you need to make sure Chansey is extremely happy. You need to help the anxious creature find its bliss, one might say.

The usual methods of improving your Pokémon’s happiness levels work just fine on Chansey. It really just comes down to how quickly you wish to make the evolution, and what resources you are willing to devote to the effort.

The easiest way to improve Chansey’s happiness rating is to keep it in your party as you wander Paldea. Put it in the lead and let it roam ahead of you with the Let’s Go mode, and give it a Soothe Bell to hold. You can purchase those items for sale at your local Delibird Presents branch for 5,000 Pokedollars or LP. Finally, you can improve happiness by involving Chansey in any picnic activities.

If you have trouble evolving Chansey despite using the above techniques, you may also want to consider capturing a Blissey in the wild. It doesn’t appear as often as Chansey, or in as many places, but you can find it sometimes in parts of North Province, including Area Two. That’s where I met and captured my first Blissey.
