Eye see what you did there.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom boasts a number of powerful beasts. You don’t even have to defeat some of them to see the end credits, and yet there they are. Here is our guide on how to find and beat Black Hinox in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Tears of the Kingdom – how to find and beat Black Hinox

You’ll encounter numerous varieties of Hinox in the game. The main difference between them is how hard they hit and how much damage they can take. The Black Hinox is at the top of the heap.

To find and beat Black Hinox, prepare yourself by bringing powerful weapons. Then go to one of several places it appears in Hyrule and wake it from its slumber. The Black Hinox can withstand a lot of damage before it falls. It also deals a lot of pain. You don’t want an extended fight, especially if you have a short life meter and mid-level armor (as I did).

You’ll find the Black Hinox in a few places around Hyrule, but I like to fight it in Meadela’s Mantle. Get there by heading straight west along the plateau from Gerudo Highlands Skyview Tower. It’s a short trip. See the map above for a screenshot of its location.

The Black Hinox is asleep as you approach, and it wakens slowly. You can defeat it without much difficulty before it even has a chance to attack. Just fire Arrows fused with Bomb Flowers. If you have a decent bow, you should take it out this way using only a few shots, especially if one or two of them hit its eye and temporarily halt its advance. I’ve found no easier way to defeat it. Check our guide on where to get and farm Bomb Flowers if you need to improve your supply.

If you prefer, you can instead fight the Black Hinox fairly. You should still fire arrows. However, it’s more important than ever to hit the beast’s single eye. When its movement briefly slows, that’s the ideal time to aim for the eye. A direct hit causes your foe to fall backward and sit for a moment. Run up and grab Soldier’s Broadsword and Soldier’s Claymore from its necklace. If you have a strong melee weapon equipped, this is also your chance to get in three or four hits.

Don’t linger for long. The beast will return to its feet in no time. From there, repeat the above process as needed. The Black Hinox may also grab a tree and wield it as a club. A direct hit from that makeshift weapon could be enough to instantly kill you. So might a blow from its fist. Also, you will possibly die if it hops into the air and comes crashing down on you. In other words, keep your distance except in the short period of time that follows just after you shoot it in the eye.

When you defeat the Black Hinox, it drops a variety of items. These may include Black Hinox Horn, Hinox Tooth, and Hinox Guts. It may also drop roasted meats.
