Content Warning: How to fix “Failed to extract” video error

After a trip to the Old World where you took incredible videos of monsters, you’ll come back to your haven to turn your video into a disc. Unfortunately, many players have been seeing this “Failed to extract” message pop up on the machine after dropping the video recorder into the extractor. So how can you fix this bug? Until the developers fix this issue with a patch, I recommend you try restarting your game to see if that helps.

Since Content Warning was released pretty recently on April 1, players are just now encountering overlooked bugs. This is to be expected for any new game, but it can be frustrating when it impedes your ability to progress in the game. Players online, like this Reddit user, have posted about this issue since it ruins your chances of gaining views.

Everyone, even the host, should attempt to close the Content Warning entirely before jumping back in to see if that worked. If the videos are still not extracting properly, you may have to abandon this save file for a new one.

Luckily, there’s still a way to save the video to your computer even though it won’t progress the game. Press F3 on your keyboard while in-game to save the video you took onto your computer to watch later. At least you can’t lose funny videos to share with your friends.

No one currently knows the cause of this glitch, but it could be due to a few things. Perhaps it matters who began filming the video versus who dropped the camera into the extractor. I’d make sure to designate one player as the camera person for each run and not have them switch. If the camera person dies, there’s not much you can do, but try to keep footage being filmed by one person at all times.

Maybe you filmed too much or spammed the record button too many times for the videos to load properly. It could even be caused by you pressing record and then dropping the camera, who knows? Whatever the case is, I’d be careful about when you start and stop recording, as well as who is recording the footage.

The issue could even have to do with corrupt game files or even broken mods. Speaking of mods, did you know there’s already a mod for playing with more than four players?
