The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom features many ways of traversing the vast open world it offers. Whether that’s through the use of fast travel, your trusty glider, building a car for yourself, or just running across Hyrule, there’s no shortage of options. One of the options you can use early on is the ability to ride a horse, riding a horse around the world of Hyrule is one of the fastest ways of getting around and can make traversing the world a lot easier. Here’s how to get a horse in Tears of the Kingdom.
How to find a horse in Tears of the Kingdom
Finding a horse in Tears of the Kingdom is something you can do easily. The first thing you’re going to need to do is find yourself a horse. Horses can be found all across Hyrule as long as there’s a lush field nearby. One of the earliest locations that I have found a horse is west of Lookout Landing in the plains. You can exit out of the west gate and almost immediately see some horses nearby you can tame.

How to Tame a Horse
Taming the horses is where the tricky part of getting a horse in Tears of the Kingdom begins. You’re going to want to sneak up on a horse by crouching, and very slowly approach them so that they don’t hear you. You can also use stealth buffs to make this easier. I, personally, had issues doing this at full crouch speed, so my advice would be to only crouch walk at about half speed once you get pretty close.

Once you’re near a horse in Tears of the Kingdom, it’s time to tame it. When you see the prompt to mount, you’re going to want to do that, then press the L button as quickly as possible to tame the horse. This takes stamina, and the amount of stamina you need depends on the horse you’re trying to tame. The horse I tamed in this area was relatively easy to tame, and I was able to do it with the base stamina, so hopefully this is the same for you.

Once you do that, you have yourself a horse in Tears of the Kingdom. You’re going to want to find yourself a stable so you can keep it forever and name it, and one can be found just to the west of the area mentioned in this guide. You can see it yourself on the map in the image above.
