How to Get the Devilfoil Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Mask up!

The Devilfoil Mask is one of the rarer pieces of equipment you can find in Baldur’s Gate 3. Not only is this mask hard to find, it also comes with a cool and weirdly unspecified effect, which I’ll detail below. But first, here’s how you can find the Devilfoil Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Unfortunately, the Devilfoil Mask is only found in one location in Baldur’s Gate 3 during Act 1. So if you’ve moved onto the Shadow-Cursed Lands you’ll have missed your chance to get the mask. If you’re still in Act 1, you’ll find all four of the available Devilfoil Masks in the Grymforge. You specifically want to look around where the cave-in is next to where the boat drops you off at the Grymforge.

Here are the locations for each Devilfoil Mask:

  • Next to a skeleton right by the cave-in
  • In the main hall on top of a table
  • In the room with the Altar and the Merregon Legionnaire
  • One is dropped by the Merregon Legionnaire

What does the Devilfoil Mask do

The Devilfoil Mask is bizarre in the sense that it doesn’t outright tell you what it does. Its effect is a secret though you can figure it out if you take a look at your stats. The mask increases your Strength by one while decreasing your Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma by one. To make matters even stranger, the effect of this mask increases with how many party members have it equipped. So if all four party members have the Devilfoil Mask on, you’ll have a +3 buff to Strength and a -3 debuff to Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma.

There’s another usage for the Devilfoil Masks during Act 2 in Baldur’s Gate 3. You can give them to Dammon who’ll craft them into Orthorn Explosives. So if you find that these masks are more of a nuisance than anything, why not turn them into bombs? You can also just sell them and make them someone else’s problem entirely too.
