How to get the Riptide in Destiny 2

Encase your foes in an icy blast

The Season of the Wish has brought many Solar and Stasis weapons into the spotlight. One of those is the Riptide Fusion Rifle, and if you want to get your own, let me show you how.

Where to get Riptide Fusion Rifle in Destiny 2

You can purchase the Riptide from Lord Shaxx in the Tower near the Vault. The Riptide is available in the Focused Decoding menu and costs three Crucible Engrams and 5,000 Glimmer.

Crucible Engrams are obtained by completing regular Crucible matches, so you have to delve into PvP if you want them. The playlist selection constantly changes in The Crucible, but you can earn Engrams in any mode you wish. I pick Control whenever it’s available, as the rules are simple, and my teammates usually go for the objective. If you want to forego teammates entirely, Rumble is a good choice, although I’ve noticed the queue times are generally longer.

There’s a slim chance you’ll get the Riptide as a random drop after any Crucible matches, so you may not have to wait too long. Remember, if you’re playing in the Iron Banner mode, you’ll only receive Iron Banner Engrams.

Why is the Riptide sought after?

The Season of the Wish Artifact pairs well with Stasis and Solar weapons. The Riptide has always been a solid Stasis Fusion Rifle, but it shines with Artifact Perks like Hail The Storm and Pillar Of Ice.

What perks do I want on the Riptide?

Each Riptide you purchase from Shaxx will come with random perks. The PvE roll I recommend farming for is Autoloading Holster and Chill Clip

Chill Clip is the star of the show, as rounds fired from the top half of the magazine detonate and slow down targets. Autoloading Holster reloads the weapon after stowing it for a few seconds. In practice, this perk means you don’t waste valuable time reloading your Riptide and can deal constant damage by weapon swapping.

The Season of the Wish has seen many welcome changes to the meta. If you’re after a powerful Exotic you may not have considered, check out our guide on how to get the Polaris Lance and Catalyst.
