For each expedition you do in Witchfire, you earn Witchfire (the currency) that you can spend in the home base called Sanctuary. Since Witchfire is a roguelike game, you need to be careful because every time you die, you’ll lose a lot of what you’ve earned. One of the things you lose is Witchfire, which is the source you’ll be using to level up. Getting stronger may be a little confusing since the game has a somewhat unconventional way of doing so. This guide will show you how to level up in Witchfire, so you can take bosses like Shieldbreaker on easily.
Witchfire: How to level up
Since you already know Witchfire is what you need to get stronger, holding on to as much as you can is always the play. Assuming you don’t die in any run, you can take all the Witchfire you’ve earned to the Ascension Shrine which is up the stairs outside the mirror that you access your workshop with. Next, when you interact with the shrine, you can spend any or all the Witchfire in any of the stats. However, each time you level up one stat, every other stat, including the one you leveled up, gets expensive. So, you’ll have to collect even more Witchfire during each run.

As mentioned, if you die during your attempts, you’ll lose all of your Witchfire. It’s not a restart, but rather another attempt altogether. When you jump back into another run, you can reclaim your spirit at the area where you died. This will restore all the Witchfire you had. Then, you can teleport back to the home base through any of the portals located on the map. Note: When you teleport, your skills won’t go with you and everything resets. Going back is worth it; you’ll be a lot stronger if you level up. Additionally, enemies that you kill will drop either small, medium, or large chunks of Witchfire which you can collect. Witchfire that you get from slain enemies is bound to you, so when you die, it stays in your inventory. When you go back to the Sanctuary, you can consume the Witchfire from there and gain more. From there, just head to the Ascension Shrine to level up.
