How to open the main gate to Falbarton’s Castle in Hogwarts Legacy

You have no gate key, so you must solve puzzles instead.

During the level 17 main quest, ‘The High Keep,’ you’ll travel to Falbarton’s Castle with Natty to find evidence to prove Harlow and Rookwood are up to no good. The first half of the quest presents an obstacle for your character, however: the main gate is closed, and you must figure out how to open it. It takes solving a few puzzles to open the gate and progress the quest. Here’s how to open the main gate to Falbarton’s Castle in Hogwarts Legacy.

Meet Natty outside of Falbarton’s Castle to the northeast of Hogsmeade at night. She will explain the quest objective to you and ask you to find a way to open the main gate, and the quest is in action.

First of all, there is a pile of wooden objects for you to climb up and gain access to the castle wall. Once you’ve climbed it, you’ll find a strange mechanism.

This is a wheel. Use Depulso on it to open the gate. Inside the room you can collect some coins, then use Wingardium Leviosa to move the box so you can open the chest.

Take the box outside using Accio and put it beneath this exposed wall. Use Levioso to levitate it and climb up further into the castle.

In this next part, you’ll find wood covering a hole in the wall. Use the basic spell to destroy it. There’s another box inside if you crawl in, but you can’t use a spell on it while crouched.

Instead, go out and loop around to this broken window. Use Accio to move it out of the way, then go back and crawl through.

You’ll find a letter inside the space, and then another wheel. Use Depulso three times in succession to open the gate, then Accio the gate hinge revealed by doing so to open the gate.

Success! The gate is now open and Natty will join you inside. But be cautious going forward, as the second half of this quest is more difficult and involves combat.
