Just like you, foes you face throughout FF7 Rebirth have unique abilities they can call upon during battle. During your time in the Grasslands, you come across Fiend Intel locations requiring you to complete a battle and three challenges. More specifically, one of Fiend Intel 4: Wailing Weed’s challenges asks you to prevent enemies from using Quick Nap.

The enemies you face are a rare type of mandragora called a Mandrake. As you start the fight and asses the enemy, you’ll find that inflicting too much damage on one of these creatures causes Quick Nap to trigger. However, as with most enemies, there is a way around this function using a few different techniques.

Mandrakes are weak to fire and ice, so if you can deal quick damage before they can react, you’ll be able to kill them without having to worry about a Quick Nap. Alternatively, if you don’t have the damage to kill them quickly or stagger them in enough time, you can utilize Red XIII and Cloud’s synergy skill Howling Smash. By attacking the same enemy with this attack over and over, the Mandrake has no time to get up and perform the Quick Nap action.

If you couldn’t complete all the challenges for this intel on your first time around, we’ve got a few ideas that could help you out. Besides preventing enemies from performing Quick Nap, you must also stagger an enemy, and defeat all three within a time limit.

If you’re having trouble with the time limit, you could bring some party members like Tifa and Barret who boast great blunt damage. Otherwise, grab Red XIII and/or Aerith and go to town with fire and ice attacks. I imagine more people will trip up on the other challenge.

While staggering an enemy isn’t usually that difficult, being over-leveled and trying not to kill them before staggering is. If you’re anything like me, then you might have decided to come back to the Grasslands after progressing a bit in the story. The only problem is by the time I returned, I was significantly over-leveled. This means before you even get the stagger meter to half, the enemy is already dead.

Thankfully, Folio abilities such as Snow Flurry or Wildfire will help ensure you do the least amount of damage and the maximum amount of stagger. Each character unlocks these Folios at different places in their tree, but as long as you have one of them you can stagger the Mandrakes much more easily. The best characters for this are Cloud and Tifa, so take a look at their Folios and consider grabbing these abilities.
