How to unlock fast travel between regions in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth

Can you return to old regions in Rebirth?

The world of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is truly massive, and each of the game’s regions is filled to the brim with side quests, collectibles, and minigames that aren’t available anywhere else. As the game takes you to new regions, however, you may find yourself unable to return to previous zones.

For the majority of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, fast travel between regions is unavailable and you’ll be stuck in whatever region the main story takes you to. There are ways to get back to old zones, but they don’t become available until much later in the story. Even then, you won’t be able to fast travel the usual way to other regions until much, much later in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth.

How to Fast Travel to Other Regions in FF7 Rebirth

There are multiple ways to fast travel to other regions in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The first form of fast travel to other regions becomes available at the end of Chapter 6. After hanging out at Costa del Sol and recruiting Yuffie, you’ll be able to use the Shinra-8 ship to travel between the Corel and Junon regions. By completing a specific quest in Junon at this point, you can also fast travel back to the starting Grasslands region.

This will be your only avenue of fast travel for quite some time, but that changes once you reach Chapter 9. After exploring Gongaga, the team will meet Cid, the pilot of the Tiny Bronco. After meeting Cid, you can travel to any region’s airstrip and he’ll take you to any previously visited area for a price. The fast travel costs can add up quickly, however, especially if you’ve been ignoring Rebirth’s side quests.

Thankfully, free fast travel between regions is unlocked during Chapter 12 of the main storyline. This is basically the end of the game, though. Once the party returns to Costa del Sol with a modified Tiny Bronco capable of sea travel, the world fully opens up. New quests become available in every region you’ve visited so far, and new treasure hunts become available in the Meridian Ocean.

At this point, you can visit docks along the coast of every region to take the Tiny Bronco for a spin on the Meridian Ocean. You can pilot the ship directly to other regions if you wish, but you can also just fast travel using the map for free at this point in the game. Before wrapping up the main storyline of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, make sure to use your newfound freedom to fine-tune your party composition and prepare for the final battles ahead.
