With the addition of Steering Wheels to LEGO Fortnite, vehicles are much easier to make and pilot. There’s never been a better time to make your first ride, but let’s start with the basics. Here’s how to use Car Jacks in LEGO Fortnite.
What is a Car Jack in LEGO Fortnite?
There are two different Car Jacks in LEGO Fortnite. Their sole purpose is to give you a raised platform to create vehicles. At the time of writing, you can build either a Small or large car jack. Both Jacks cost the same materials and are four Wooden Rods each. You can make Rods at the Lumber Mill crafting station.
The only difference between the Jacks is the height. The Small Car Jack gives you a platform eight tiles high, and the Large is slightly taller at twelve tiles. You can use whatever you prefer, although I find the Small Car Jack easier to use in Survival mode as it’s closer to the ground.
The Large Jack may give you more room if you’re in Creative Mode with Flying enabled.
How to use the Small and Large Car Jack in LEGO Fortnite
Car Jacks are pretty basic in LEGO Fortnite and can’t be controlled to go up or down. Once you’ve built a Car Jack, you can craft your vehicle base on top of it.
Once your creation is finished, interact with the Car Jack to remove it. As it’s a separate piece, removing the Car Jack won’t damage the vehicle on top, and whatever you’ve built will lightly fall to ground level.
I recommend checking everything on your vehicle before removing the Car Jack, as you won’t be able to place one underneath again afterward. You’ll need Biomass to create Power Cells for any engines, so ensure everything powers up and everything is to your liking before removing the Jack.
Do I need to use the Car Jack in LEGO Fortnite?
You can technically build a car at ground level without a Jack, but I wouldn’t recommend it. Car Jacks are easy to make and extremely cheap, which makes sense as they are disposable. It can be a real pain to place wheels on a platform at ground level, especially if the surface is uneven. As the Car Jack eliminates these problems, you need a very good reason not to use one.
You can check that your vehicle has power while it’s on a Car Jack by sitting in the driver’s seat. If there’s no power, make sure you’ve fitted some Power Cells before taking your creation out for a spin.
