One of the things that makes Diablo appealing is its hardcore mode. Even if you have a great solo build going for Diablo 4, expect a lot of hardships. I usually play on the hardcore difficulty, and can admit have issues with the mode. But, it’s a fun time nonetheless. However, you do get punished quite a bit in hardcore. If you die in the game — you lose everything. So, it’s best to be careful when playing on a higher difficulty. While your character is gone, it’s not forgotten. Blizzard Entertainment lets you remember your fallen hero by making them viewable in a certain menu. So, read this guide on how to view your fallen characters in Diablo 4.
Diablo 4: How to view your fallen characters
As you dive into the world of Diablo 4, and press that hardcore option, everything is already stacked against you. After you confirm your selection, a window pops up telling you if you die, your character is unplayable. Additionally, you’ll be able to view them in the Hall of Fallen Heroes.
This seems straightforward, but I thought this was a place I needed to go to with my new character. However, it’s much simpler than that.
If you had the unlucky moment of losing your hero, and want to see that character you’ve built, follow the steps below.
There are two ways to do this, either by pressing the Esc Key or the M Key. One will bring you to the game’s main menu, and the other will send you to the map. Either way, both locations work.
Once you’re in the menu, you should see options on the top, and one of them is Collections. Press it, or tap Y on your keyboard and you’ll be sent to another sub-menu, showing challenges, and other feats you’ve done. The one you’re looking for is called Fallen Characters.

Upon clicking this option, you’ll see all the characters you’ve used that have died. There will also be information like who killed your character, what level they were, how much time you’ve spent with them, and more.

Note that, you can only do this when the character is level 10 and above. If you’re lower, the character is completely gone.
Should you play on hardcore?
There are benefits to playing on hardcore, such as leveling up quickly. But, as you can see, there’s also the downside of it. I personally recommend playing on the lower softcore difficulty, because if you die, you just need to repair your armor. It also is a great way for new players to get into Diablo 4. However, if you’re like me and enjoy the emotional distress you get from hardcore, then it could be for you.
