Journalist claims Metroid Prime 2 Remastered will come “relatively soonish”

Metroid Prime Remastered Samus Visor 2

Earlier this year, Metroid Prime Remastered came out on Switch and received a heaping of praise from critics and fans. This successful release proved that developer Retro Studios, which had entered a long hiatus since Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, still has what it takes to put out incredibly polished video games. Of course, this led to many fans discussing the possibility of follow-up remasters for Metroid Prime 2 and 3, something that journalist and credible leaker Jeff Grubb suggested would happen. Just recently, Grubb discussed a potential Metroid Prime 2 Remastered once more, claiming that the game will likely see a release “relatively soonish.”

An important caveat

Grubb made this claim on the most recent episode of the Last of the Nintendogs podcast, streamed yesterday on the Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess YouTube channel. He also responded to a question asking about a previous claim in which he suggested that Metroid Prime 2 would not see as thorough of an upgrade as Metroid Prime did. He ended up reaffirming this claim, saying that if those plans have changed, he did not hear about it.

Grubb followed up by saying that the remaster will turn out mostly how fans would want it to by including modern controls, HD visuals, and other features. However, he reiterated that the rerelease would not receive the same “love and care that Metroid Prime got.” He did say, though, that the remaster seemingly won’t come bundled in with Metroid Prime 3, so he still expects that it will “look pretty good overall.”

If Grubb’s claim that Metroid Prime 2 Remastered won’t have the same level of effort put into it compared to Prime 1 turns out accurate, that would be a huge shame, especially since Prime 2 is my personal favorite of the trilogy. Then again, I don’t tend to play many remakes or substantial remasters these days, so a more straightforward HD port would probably appeal to me more anyway.
