league of legends braum

One of the best moustaches in gaming, right there.

Riot have revealed and detailed the moustachioed Braum, the newest champion to be joining the League of Legends roster.

Braum is a champion fueled by the power of manly facial hair. His impressive moustache strikes fear into– okay, no, I lied. He’s a tanky support who stands between the teams, shielding the squishier members of his own side by taking hits for them. I’m almost certain this has something to do with his ‘tache, though.

His defining skill is his E, Unbreakable. This makes him raise his shield in a chosen direction, negating the damage of the first attack from that direction, and reducing the damage of all future attacks from that direction while his shield remains raised. This also causes him to intercept projectiles, which hit him and are then destroyed, and he gets a bit of a speed boost while his shield’s up.

His passive, Concussive Blows, is applied to enemies hit by his basic attack. Once one stack is on an enemy, all basic attacks from him and his allies apply further stacks, and once an enemy has four stacks on them, they’re immediately stunned and will take extra magic damage for a duration. Alas, once they’ve been stunned, Braum can’t apply anymore Concussive Blows to his target for a little while.

His Q, Winter’s Bite, launches an icy skillshot from his shield. Whoever it hits gets a stack of Concussive Blows, is slowed, and takes an amount of magic damage based on Braum’s max health. His W, Stand Behind Me, has Braum leap between a target ally and the nearest enemy champion, with both Braum and his target getting bonus armour and magic resist based on Braum’s total armour and magic resist. Finally, his R is Glacial Fissure, a long-range skillshot that knocks up and damages all enemies hit, and leaves behind a strong slowing field.

I’m rubbish at League of Legends, so I’m not even going to attempt to tell you how you should play him. Riot reckon he’s best when paired up with a marksman and transitions well to a late-game role as a hard-to-kill tank, but you can have a read of their thoughts – and the way he was designed – over on the official reveal page. As ever, the design notes provide some fascinating insight into the development process.

No word on when Braum will hit the live servers, but if you want to give him a go, you can hop onto the PBE to try him out.

Tim McDonald
Tim has been playing PC games for longer than he's willing to admit. He's written for a number of publications, but has been with PC Invasion - in all its various incarnations - for over a decade. When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
