Left 4 Dead 2 is set to be Valve’s fastest-selling game ever, based on pre-orders.
Valve president Gabe Newell – who’s flying out to Australia soon, in a truly heartwarming story – notes that “Based on the strength of pre-orders, Left 4 Dead 2 will be the fastest selling product in Valve’s history,” and that “Left 4 Dead 2 has consistently run at 300% of Left 4 Dead’s numbers.” Pretty impressive, considering that the pre-orders only opened on 2 October.Valve’s VP of marketing, Doug Lombardi, adds that Left 4 Dead 2 hasalready “set the record for greatest number of pre-orders in ourcompany’s history” despite the game still being a month out, and mentions Valve will “[support] Left 4 Dead 2’s launch with a $25 million campaign.” That’s in USD.In Europe, this ad budget means we’re going to see print, television, website, and outdoor ads. Americans can expect similar, along with TV adverts during UFC matches and Monday Night Football. American Football, that is. Not real football. We’re looking forward to Left 4 Dead 2, but there has been some fan-rage over the sequel announcement considering the promises of further content for the original game. You can have a read up on that here, but if you’d rather find out why you should be excited about the zombie-slaying sequel, then check out our interview with Lombardi over on IncGamers TV, and have a read of our preview here. If that all works for you, check out what you can get by pre-ordering here.
