Help Mameoka get his partner back in this substory.

The streets of Hawaii are filled with crazy characters and substories that Ichiban can get dragged into during Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. One of the earliest substories in the game is called Rise and Grind, which involves repairing the bond between an estranged pair of coffee shop owners.

How to Start the Rise and Grind Substory

To start the Rise and Grind substory, head to Cafe Soramame on Anaconda Avenue. This is just across the Aloha Bridge that leads to the western half of Honolulu, so it’s hard to miss.

As you approach the store, you’ll find a crowd of people harassing the owner. After chasing them off, he explains that his previous partner has left him. To complete this substory, all you have to do is keep returning to the cafe every now and then to see the next chapter of the story.

Who is Mameoka’s Partner in Infinite Wealth?

Eventually, you’ll chase down the journalist who has been harassing Mameoka and causing problems for Cafe Soramame. You’ll find Mameoka’s former partner among them, and you have to choose his name from three options. If you don’t remember, Mameoka’s partner is named Sorata.

There’s no penalty for choosing the wrong name, however, so don’t panic if you selected a different option and then immediately searched for a guide. Dialogue choices tend to not matter in Infinite Wealth, so keep that in mind for future substories.

After this encounter, the substory will be completed and you’ll unlock Mameoka as a Poundmate for use in combat. He can heal your party for a few turns, but there are better support Poundmates to use in the long term. Since this substory happens so early in the game, however, he’s nice to have.

Completing substories is key to leveling up Ichiban’s personality stats and improving his combat abilities. Personality stats are required to unlock new Jobs and invite some guests to Dondoko Island once you’ve unlocked that. You can level up personality stats by taking quizzes at the Ounabara Vocational Center if you need a quick boost.
