When you play Like a Dragon: Ishin, you’ll find it’s wise to craft new weapons periodically. However, you can’t just create blades out of thin air. First you need to find the required materials. Ways to get Platinum Filings in Like a Dragon: Ishin
The blacksmith at Kurogane Smithing in Rakugai will create numerous different weapons over the course of your adventure, provided you give him materials and the opportunity to grow more experienced at his craft. He expects you to find the necessary materials as part of the bargain. You can purchase some of those materials from his cohort near the entryway. Platinum Filings isn’t offered, however.
To get the Platinum Filings most easily, complete missions available at the barracks, or find the item as loot dropped by certain enemies, or draw it from a well. You need Platinum Filings to craft a lot of the most powerful weapons in the game, such as the Oni-maru, Otenta, Masamune, and Murasame katanas.

The barracks are the most reliable way to produce Platinum Filings, which you earn as a reward for completing some early missions. You’ll find the item while clearing missions such as ‘Reclaim the Stolen 1000 Ryo Boxes 1,’ which is the first mission in the Bandits’ Mine region. ‘Defeat the Spear Squad,’ the sixth mission in that region, yields the same item. Platinum Filings shows up as a reward for completing several missions in the Sanada Stronghold region, as well.
Whenever you pass a well as you travel around the city, try to draw water from it. You’ll get Virtue when you do that often enough. Sometimes, you’ll also get a nice item, such as Platinum Filings.
Missions and trips to the well aren’t the only ways to get Platinum Filings. As you roam Kyo’s city streets, you’ll also encounter a scoundrel known as the Golden Sneak. He’s more powerful than a typical soldier, but usually not a threat since he patrols alone. He wears a golden mask, which makes him easy to spot from a distance. Once defeated, he drops various precious resources. Many of them are useful for selling or crafting. Platinum Filings is one such resource. However, he doesn’t drop that item often. The missions from the barracks remain your best bet.
