A behind-the-scenes legal dispute has apparently been resolved today, ending with No Man’s Sky being able to use the word ‘Sky’ in their title. According to a post by HelloGames’ Sean Murray (through the official No Man’s Sky twitter), British telecommunications service BSkyB were less than keen on them doing so.
“We finally settled with Sky (they own the word “Sky”). We can call our game No Man’s Sky. 3 years of secret stupid legal nonsense over”, Murray’s post reads.
Details beyond that are obviously pretty sparse (hence the mention of “secret” in that post), but it sounds as if HelloGames, or perhaps Sony on their behalf, have agreed some sort of fee in return for temporarily renting the word ‘Sky’.
Good job too, because No Man’s That Thing Above The Line of The Horizon is a rubbish title.
