Pillars of Eternity 2 combat will be less cluttered with spell effects

The newest backer video for Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire compiles a few unrelated additions to the sequel. One of those inclusions is VFX Opacity on pause, and sounds rather useful.

If you ever found the spell effects in Pillars of Eternity to be cluttering up the screen and obscuring useful information, VFX Opacity in Pillars of Eternity 2 should help. Basically, it’ll increase the transparency of spell effects when the game is paused. Obsidian say they plan to link this to a slider, so you can control exactly how far back the effects get scaled.

Other things highlighted in this latest trailer include some top notch bird hopping animations, drunken Ogres, and physics effects on flails. Oh, and Josh Sawyer acting sinister.

are the fights compared to the contrived fairness and balance of the original??

I don’t think it will it change much, sadly, I don’t see why balance is such an important factor in singleplayer games, and I don’t like that popular trend of “every class got spells” in modern RPGs.
