“Astro Golf finishes atop April’s Android Qi games chart. Yep, it’s a mini-golf game that’s simply out of this world. Putting cheesy puns to one side, Astro Golf is more of a physics-puzzler than an outright sports game, and it’s all the better for it. Speaking of physics-puzzlers, April saw the much-anticipated Android release of Cut the Rope 2, which lands at #4. Everyone’s favourite candy-munching critter returns with all-new companions and new-found mobility. While we’re linking things up so smoothly, April bore witness to another long-awaited conversion in the shape of Mikey Hooks. Surfacing just a few months after Mikey Shorts, this sequel features the same speedrun platformer gameplay as the original but with a new swinging mechanic. Finally, we have a true original in Shattered Planet. It’s an isometric action-RPG set in a sci-fi world, and it’s another of those challenging roguelikes filled with random level design, permanent death, and huge amounts of replayability.”
“Topping the April Android Qi app chart is Unreal Space HD, a beautifully star-hazy 3D live wallpaper with high-resolution graphics. More useful (albeit to a specific subset of surfing enthusiasts) is Joel Parkinson Pro Surf at #2. This app provides 30 programs and 150 exercises to help make you better at riding the surf. Just behind that is Boldomatic, something of an anti-social network for those who want to share thoughts and expressions rather than inane cat pictures. Finally, we have the eagerly anticipated release of Microsoft Office Mobile for Android. View and edit your Excel, Word, and PowerPoint documents on the fly with a mobile-optimised UI.”
“We’ll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which Android games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the Android Quality Index now.”

The iPhone Quality Index boasts over 250,000 scores from the world’s best websites, such as  148Apps,  Pocket Gamer, and  What’s On iPhone, and uses a unique metric to create a single definitive score for each iPhone title.

“A lot of developers have tried to capture the roguelike experience on mobile, but RocketCat Games has just served up one of the most convincing efforts yet. Wayward Souls tops April’s iPhone Qi chart thanks its superb action-RPG core that encompasses random level design and permadeath.”

“Just behind at #2, Monument Valley wowed, soothed, and befuddled in equal measure. It’s a brain-twisting puzzler that tips its cone-shaped hat to M.C. Escher’s logic-defying art. “

“Hitman GO is one of the smartest console-to-iOS treatments we’ve ever seen, playing out like a particularly deadly puzzle boardgame.”

“If you thought arty games were the preserve of the console gamer, check outDavid. This unusual mix of 2D shooter, platformer, and physics-puzzler strolls enigmatically into ninth spot on this month’s games chart.”

“GrooveMaker 2 tops the April iPhone Qi app chart with its smart, intuitive beat-making skills. You don’t need to be an accomplished musician to turn out funky results here, but a little talent will yield some highly polished tracks.”

“Down at #3, meanwhile, is Yapert. It’s a news and social network aggregator that seeks out what’s hot online at any given moment and gathers it into one easy-on-the-eye location.”

“Photography nuts will be impressed by Picquest in fourth place. It shows you nearby photographers on a map and gives you access to their latest work.”

“Finally, an app for all those linguistically adept sorts who find trawling through the daily supply of text messages, social network posts, and website comments a painful experience. Down at #5, you see, EZCOMMA provides guidance on the appropriate use of commas.”

“We’ll continue to provide an updated listing each and every month, together with a round-up of the year. For all the up-to-date information on which iPhone games, apps, and publishers are reviewing best, head on over to the iPhone Quality Index now.”
