Frogster has announced that over two million players have registered for its free to play MMO, Runes of Magic.
The game includes most of the features you would find in subscription MMOs like World of Warcraft and Warhammer Online, but operates on a free to play business model. The developer makes its money by players purchasing items in the in-game shop, such as mounts, more storage room, cosmetic and convenience items.
Runes of Magic only launched six months ago and has seen several major content updates already. The second chapter, ‘The Elven Prophecy‘, was released last month and introduced Elves as a playable race, along with two new classes, the Druid and Warden. French and Spanish versions of the game were also launched around the same time. A Russian client is in the works.
“Runes of Magic has become a mega-seller in the few months since we launched. The 2 million registrations milestone we have now hit is yet further proof of the quality of our game and our communication strategy”, commented Rolf Klöppel, Director of Marketing & PR for Frogster Online Gaming.
