Steam DDOS attackers’ Twitter account suspended

This evening, Steam suffered a large DDOS attack which took the service down for several hours, and one group is believed to be involved.

Phantom Squad has been implicated in the attack which also hit other services such as Origin, PSN and Xbox Live. Since the attack, the Twitter account for the group/individual has been suspended.

It’s unfortunate these attacks happen over the holidays and today’s outage could indicate groups intend to disrupt holiday gaming as much as possible.  In a Tweet from one team member, he said, “Christmas will be hell for gamers”.

Hopefully there won’t be any more, but if services to go down, it’s likely another attack. We’ll be keeping a close eye on the situation and will keep you posted should any further attacks occur.
