Steam Summer Sale breaks Ubisoft’s DRM

Recommended Videos

Steam’s ongoing Summer Sale has broken Ubisoft’s PC DRM system.

The publisher’s DRM (through the implementation of Uplay) requires that players be online at all times when playing their games on PC. It seems that so many players have bought Ubisoft games during the Summer Sale that the system crashed, meaning no-one could play their games.

If nothing else, this is a brilliant example of why Ubisoft’s DRM policy is wrong – the possibility exists that fair and honest customers will be denied access to games that they’ve legally purchased and own.

Uplay is once again functioning, with Ubisoft giving a low-key apology through its own forums.
