Technically you can start playing the Beta on 28 August, but only if you pre-ordered Destiny 2 through Battle.Net. The rest of us will be able to play between the 29th and 31st (inclusive).

The Beta will include the first campaign story mission (Homecoming), a co-op ‘Strike’ called Inverted Spire, and a pair of competitive multiplayer maps. One of which, Javelin-4, has apparently not been seen before. Destiny 2 itself will be released on PC on 24 October.
