Fallout 76 Won’t Allow You To Respec Your Character

Better take your character build seriously in Fallout 76, because you won’t be able to change it later. In many of Bethesda’s prior games, you are given a chance to change the various stats of your character before heading off into the world. That option may be there at the start of Fallout 76, but after that, you’re stuck with your decision.

According to Bethesda PR chief Pete Hines, you cannot respec your SPECIAL points, even after reaching max level. In comparison, games like World of Warcraft will allow you to unlearn your class specialization. All you need to do is pay a hefty fee to a class trainer. Not so with Fallout 76.

You Have Chosen… Poorly

Like in prior games in the series, Fallout 76 utilizes the SPECIAL system for leveling your character. This system, which applies points to Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, and Luck, governs your build. With the news that you can’t change any of these at any point in the game, it’s only natural that you’re going to have to plan out each upgrade carefully. Otherwise, you may not have any choice but to make a new character.

This isn’t a tragedy, by any means. Many people who plan on playing Fallout 76 for the long haul will no doubt have more than one character with which they travel the post-apocalyptic wastes of West Virginia.

Some may find this news unfavorable, but there will be a lot to see and do to distract you from your horrible character decisions. The game will enter a beta at the end of the month, where you can visit towns and abandoned theme parks at your leisure — alone, or with friends (or enemies). To find some vacation spots before you head out, take a look at the map. It’s enormous!
