Oculus VR buys designer of Xbox 360’s Kinect and controller

Oculus VR have just revealed that they purchased Carbon Design, most well known in gaming circles for helping design Xbox 360’s Kinect, as well as the Xbox 360 Controller.

In fact, Carbon has been helping design many Microsoft products, including the Touch Mouse, LifeCam, Arc Touch Mouse, as well as products in the medical and industrial fields. In fact, they designed the now famous Transforming D-pad.

This acquisition comes after months of ongoing collaboration the two companies have already been involved in.

As a result, Carbon will now be the key group within Oculus’ product engineering group. They’ll also be working closely with Oculus’ R&D team at Redmond. The acquisition should be completed before this summer ends.

We can’t help but wonder if Carbon’s own connections with another Redmond company (the one that starts with M, not N, sorry guys) will could lead to closer collaboration with them as well. This is speculation at this point, though. Congrats are in order for Oculus VR and Carbon Design, and we look forward to what they have in store for us next.
