Enemies old and new

Iceborne will continue where the base game’s story left off, and you’ll see some familiar faces like the Handler and Field Team Leader. It looks like something icy is having an effect on the wildlife in the New World, and it will fall to the player to find out why. Probably by going out and killing more of the wildlife and harvesting their bodies for gear. Such is the way of Monster Hunter.

Expect a new, icy environment complete with several new monsters for you to take down. In the frozen mountains shown in the trailer, players will face enemies both new and old. There are several monsters designed specifically for the expansion, but many monsters from previous titles in the series will be making an appearance too. That’s not all — there will also be new variants for some existing monsters, such as an Anjanath that breathes lightning at you.

New technical improvements

Capcom promises some technical improvements as well. Iceborne will boast 4K resolution, an uncapped frame rate, ultra-widescreen support, DirectX 12 support, and a high-resolution texture pack. There’s also mention of improved mouse and keyboard controls, which will be nice for those of us who prefer to forego using a controller. You can get an idea of how 4K will look in Iceborne by watching the PC trailer. Those monsters look spectacular in 4K and 60 FPS.

Monster Hunter World was a big success for Capcom on the PC, selling over 14 million copies after its release. World has been a large part of Capcom’s recent success on the PC, in addition to Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5.

You can preorder Monster Hunter World: Iceborne for $39.99 on Steam. Monster Hunter World is also on sale for 50% off until October 28.
