Windows 10 Will Have Native Support For FLAC, MKV, And HEVC

Microsoft’s Operating Systems Group’s Data and Fundamentals Team Gabriel Aul revealed in a new tweet that Windows 10 will come with native support for FLAC.

This follows earlier news that the OS will also support MKV and HEVC. Some fans may think these changes don’t matter, but they are indicative of a Microsoft more open to using open source tools that compete with theirs. It may also mean more focused efforts to make development easier on the OS, but most of all, it will mean that less hassle for gamers and general consumers who adopt the OS.
