For months, Dragon Ball Z fans have been teased and drip-fed glimpses of gameplay from the latest game in the franchise. But now, Bandai Namco Entertainment has released the most exciting video for the upcoming Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot – the opening cinematic.
And it’s everything a Dragon Ball Z fan could hope for. It’s loaded with nostalgia, epic scenes, emotional moments, and plenty of fighting. Watching the Kakarot opening cinematic will take you back to the golden days of Dragon Ball Z. By golden days, I mean the time when a Super Saiyan was the coolest thing on TV.
A whole life in two-minutes
Trying to condense the story of Dragon Ball Z into a two-minute video that gets players excited for the game is no small task. Particularly when one Kamehameha by Goku would often take three 20-minute episodes to get through.
But the Kakarot opening cinematic captures the essence of the series well. There are so many little moments in there that will take fans back to their favorite episodes. It’s all here: Piccolo’s Special Beam Cannon, Goku pushing his limits with the Kaio-Ken, and – my personal favorite – Goku inspiring Gohan to reach Super Saiyan 2 in the fight against Cell.
For those who have never seen the series, it’s got to be exciting to see the emotion and power being thrown around. I envy you being able to experience the DBZ story for the first time. And it seems like it’s going to be an accurate depiction of the anime. The game is essentially going to be an ode to Goku. It recreates his life in detail so that his story and crazy exploits can be relived by fans new and old.
There’s not much longer to wait to finally get your hands on the game. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is set to release in the USA for PC on January 17, 2020. You can already pre-purchase it via Steam. Now I’m going to go watch the opening cinematic one more time. Maybe two more.
