Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord – How to recruit more companions

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord takes place in the vast continent of Calradia. While you could go at it alone, it’s still fun to have companions around. Here’s our mini-guide on how to find some of them.

Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord – Finding and recruiting companions

The first companion you’ll have in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is none other than your sibling. You’re even given a brief background while creating your character as to why your bro is running around with you. Still, your brother ends up leaving once the tutorial’s done.

When playing the campaign proper, however, you’ll experience Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord’s massive sandbox world. Calradia and its characters move with or without you, and there will be times when some companions might not be around unless you keep looking for them. Their most common watering hole, though, is a tavern. If a settlement has a massive nameplate when fully zoomed-out and it looks like a castle when slightly zoomed-in, then there’s bound to be a tavern in there:

Once you’ve clicked on the tavern district option, you might see an NPC there who’s a possible companion. You can click on the character’s portrait to quickly speak to them:

While most companions do have a backstory, I’ve yet to see if they provide personal errands or sidequests. What’s clear is that they will ask you for quite a bit of gold in order to join your party. Speaking of your party, companions will automatically take up one slot. You could head over to our mini-guide in case you need help with increasing your party’s size.
