Bill Russell is looking to get paid.
Former NBA player and coach Bill Russell has submitted a lawsuit against Electronic Arts and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The dispute between the NBA Hall of Famer (and Boston Celtics legend) Bill Russell and EA/NCAA is centred around the use of his likeness in the NCAA Basketball series.
Russell is claiming that his likeness was used in the ‘Tournament of Legends’ portion of the series without his prior knowledge or receiving payment. The lawsuit that has been filed looks to block further sales of the games as well as pay Russell a percentage of profits from prior sales. Other unspecified damages are also being claimed.
Bill Russell’s played at centre for the Boston Celtics from 1956-1969. He went on the coact the Celtic, as well as the Sacramento Kings and Seattle SuperSonics. In 2009 the NBA renamed the NBA Finals MVP award the Bill Russell NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Award in his honour.
