Shin Megami Tensei III trailer

Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster trailer released today

Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series!

Atlus is a company not particularly well known for getting with the times. It took the Japanese publisher forever to finally release Persona 4 Golden on PC, a move that seemed like a no-brainer for years. Since that game’s success (which was a shock to absolutely nobody, except maybe Atlus), the company reports that it will put more effort into releasing its older titles on PC. One such game is Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster, which gets a new trailer today. The video dives into the game’s story, introducing you to the world ahead of its western release.

It should be noted that this HD remaster already released in Japan last October. However, the Japanese version of the game was riddled with framerate and technical issues on every platform. Shortly after its release, Atlus made a statement saying the issues were being investigated. Thankfully, by December of last year, the issues seem to have been resolved. This also included adding a new skill inheritance system, which has been long requested by fans. Skill inheritance should be very familiar if you have played the more recent Persona games. With this new system, skills inherited during demon fusion are no longer random. For an almost 20-year-old game, the system is a welcome quality of life upgrade.

This new version of the game features fully remastered 3D models and backgrounds, and fully voiced audio in both English and Japanese. There is also a new easier difficulty setting called “Merciful Mode” that will be available through free DLC. You will also be able to save wherever you want during the game (thank you). Finally, the remaster includes an alternate story path featuring Raidou Kuzunoha from Devil Summoner.

Early to pre-order, early to play

If you pre-order the digital deluxe edition, you will be able to play the game four days early starting on May 21. This version will also contain a map pack, a sampling of songs from the other Shin Megami Tensei games, and adds Raidou Kuzunoha to the game as previously mentioned via free DLC for the Steam version. Most importantly though, this version unlocks Dante from the Devil May Cry series. In case you were wondering, yes this game is where that meme comes from. Sadly, Knuckles is not included.

After you have watched the Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster trailer, you can get more details for the game (including pre-order stuff) on Steam. The game will release for all players on May 25.
