Tribes of Midgard: Jotnar boss battles and rewards guide

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Jotnar (the plural of Jotunn) are monstrous giants who are out to destroy your village in Tribes of Midgard. If you can’t stop them in time, then they can easily annihilate the world tree, Yggdrasil, abruptly ending your game and forcing you to restart from scratch. Here’s our Tribes of Midgard Jotnar boss battle guide to help you defeat these gargantuan foes.

Tribes of Midgard – Jotnar boss battle and rewards guide

There are currently four types of Jotnar in Tribes of Midgard. One will always spawn on day 2 at the edge of the map, reaching your village by day 4. You’ll want to scout ahead and whittle down its health before it can get too close.

At level 1, these baddies already have 40,000 HP, so be prepared for them. At the very least, they’ll be able to destroy trees and rocks, allowing you to pick up materials that you might not have access to early on. Later, subsequent Jotnar appearances will coincide with other effects such as Blood Moons (additional/stronger Helthing spawns) and Fimbulwinter (an endless winter where countless mobs will continue to swarm your village).

Hálogi

This smoldering entity is weak against frost. You’ll receive the Hálogi’s Horn material whenever you kill it. Surprisingly, only the Muspelhim Maul III (legendary hammer) requires this for crafting.

Geirröðr

A frost giant who’s weak against fire. Defeating it nets you Geirröðr’s Jaw, a component required for the Fornjót/frost-type legendary items in the game.

Angrboða

Angrboða is the mother of the Fenrir (with Loki being the monstrous wolf’s father). She channels darkness spells whenever she’s near her opponents. You do receive Strands of Angrboða’s Hair if you defeat her, allowing you to create Sigyn’s Blade, the only legendary weapon that uses it as a crafting material.

Járnsaxa

Járnsaxa starts out in her humanoid form before switching to a tornado that spams lightning bolts. She’s weak against the dark element. You’ll get Járnsaxa’s Brooch whenever you beat her. It’s a resource required for the Baldr/lightning-type legendary weapons and armors.

Note: Apart from unique crafting materials, the Jotnar in Tribes of Midgard also drop Ancient Cores. This resource is used to repair the bridge to Glacier Peaks, letting you progress further in the Saga Mode main quest in Tribes of Midgard.
