Splinter Celluloid: Ubisoft moves ahead with Tom Clancy film

Ubisoft’s motion picture department are swiftly becoming best buds with production company New Regency. They’ve previously announced a partnership for the Assassin’s Creed movie, and today revealed another deal that will see collaboration between the pair on a Tom Clancy Splinter Cell film.

Like the Creed movie, Ubisoft has attached a high-profile star to this one in the Bane-like shape of Tom Hardy (pictured). Screenwriting duties will be taken by Eric Singer, who appears to be best known for writing the Aeon Flux TV series in the mid-90s.

“We could not be happier to be teaming up with our friends at Ubisoft Motion Pictures on yet another truly iconic title. With a movie star like Tom Hardy in place … we know the fans will not be let down,” said New Regency CEO Brad Weston, to a passing microphone.

While videogame movie projects often seem to end up mired in creative limbo, several films based on Tom Clancy works have actually made it to the cinema (Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger).
