This past weekend saw the return of fighting games on LAN, with one of the first offline events of 2021. Red Bull Kumite, in its first appearance in North America, brought the action to Las Vegas, Nevada. Over the course of two days, players from all over the world competed in Guilty Gear Strive, Tekken 7, and Street Fighter V. Right before the finals of Guilty Gear Strive, we got a trailer for the game’s next DLC character, Happy Chaos.
One of the main antagonists of the game’s story mode, Happy Chaos, plays very similarly to another Guilty Gear character, Elphelt. Dubbed the “Gunslinging Broken Messiah” Happy Chaos wields a gun for a majority of his attacks. Unlike Elphelt though, he has access to clones of himself that can be used for various purposes. We also see that he has a separate meter above his tension gauge, similar to Goldlewis. It seems that, just like Elphelt, he will have to manually reload his gun, with up to six shots stored. What the separate meter does though, is unknown right now.
It also seems like he has some sort of install super, which probably powers up his moves. Just like other Guilty Gear Strive reveal trailers, it ends right before we see Happy Chaos use his full cinematic super. It will be very interesting to see where Happy Chaos falls in line among the rest of the cast. Especially since he might be the first true zoner in the game. One particularly cool thing in the trailer is that when Happy Chaos goes to a time out, he shoots the timer.

Not only was this the first Red Bull Kumite in America, it was also the first Red Bull Kumite to host other games beside Street Fighter V. Red Bull is committed to supporting Strive, and the fact that Arc System Works used the platform to reveal their next character shows the relationship is strong. The tournament ended with Gobou — who had previously used Zato the entire event — using Goldlewis, and winning against Diaphone’s I-No. Happy Chaos will be available for Guilty Gear Strive season pass holders in a few weeks, on November 30. Everyone else will be able to come out guns blazing on December 3.
