Salt and Sanctuary is the latest free game on the Epic Games Store

You will get salty.

If you’re interested in free games, then you’ll be very happy to hear that the 2D action RPG Salt and Sanctuary is currently free on the Epic Games Store. It’s the latest 24-hour title being given away by the storefront, and you have until 11 AM ET on December 30 to claim it. There will be another mystery game unveiled after that time.

Now is an excellent time to pick up Salt and Sanctuary. Earlier this year, the developer, Ska Studios, announced a sequel is in development. Salt and Sacrifice is scheduled for release in early 2022. And, if you’ll glance over at your calendar, you’ll notice that isn’t too far away.

Souls meets salt

You can check out the trailer below to get an idea of what you’re in for in Salt and Sanctuary. But I’ll give you a little primer, too. It’s a Souls-like action RPG with a 2D hand-drawn art style. From that, you know you’re in for some challenging encounters. The combat of Salt and Sanctuary is quick, brutal, and surprisingly complex.

There are plenty of similarities and differences between the two games. You can choose from a number of classes before you dive into character development. Salt and Sanctuary also has rich RPG elements that will see you empowering your character in various ways. Instead of Souls, however, you’ll use Salt to craft and upgrade over 600 weapons, armor pieces, and spells. Since it’s a 2D game, you can also expect some platforming components.

Salt and Sanctuary would usually cost you $17.99 USD. You’re getting an excellent saving if you pick it up for free. If you’re reading this at the time of publishing, you already have less than 24 hours remaining to claim Salt and Sanctuary for free from the Epic Games Store. So, make haste. And be sure to check back for the next free game tomorrow at 11 AM ET.
