High On Life Rick Morty Squanch Games Gameplay Trailer Release Game

Whacky first person shooter adventure High on Life is from the creators of Rick and Morty

This is going to get weird.

The Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022 is underway, and it started off strong with gameplay for its hybrid Redfall project. The devs at Squanch Games weren’t to be outdone and followed up with an equally interesting gameplay trailer for something called High on Life.

It’s a first person shooter from the creators of Rick and Morty, featuring a blend of Doom: Eternal style gameplay along with a hint of Rage and Outer Worlds vibes. The metaphorical icing on the cake is of course the weird humor that made Rick and Morty so famous. You’ll just have to watch the trailer for it to make sense.

The gameplay and graphics look nicely polished in the footage shown today. The lighting, environments, and character models all stand out with details and a personable art style. It’s just oozing with weirdness, though, which is sure to draw a lot of attention come release.

We didn’t ask for this, but maybe we deserve it

We learned a little about the plot. Basically, aliens are harvesting humans to turn them into drugs, hence the name of the game. You presumably break free and find yourself suddenly among alien species with weird talking guns that make funny faces at you. Now go save humanity.

You can modify these guns and use certain abilities to traverse levels as you go about saving humanity from getting recreationally ingested. As mentioned, the gameplay looks to be a mix of popular first person shooter elements, and it seems very much in line with what you’d expect from a developer linked to Bethesda. So it’s kind of like Doom: Eternal, but it’s all a big joke with ridiculous antics along the way. Stabbing aliens repeatedly in the neck is apparently hilarious and feels great.

You can check this title out when it releases on October this year. If it has your interest, you can follow updates via Twitter. Considering High on Life came out of the gate strong with a decent gameplay trailer, we can likely expect to learn a good bit more in the months leading up to release.
