How to farm Irregular Tomestones of Genesis 2 in Final Fantasy XIV

And Yoshi-P said, "Let there be Moogle tomes."

The newly-tweaked Moogle Tomestone event approaches once more in Final Fantasy XIV. A new slew of duties and activities are on the table this time for farming Moogle Tomestones in Final Fantasy XIV when the event comes around — so what’s the most optimal method to farm Irregular Tomestones of Genesis 2?

Best Duties to Farm Irregular Tomestones of Genesis in FFXIV

This time, the featured expansion is Stormblood so you’ll be running a lot of Omega raids and Ivalice alliance raids if you want to farm Tomestones. The Stormblood optional Trials are also featured this time, so Jade Stoa and Hells’ Kier among others will see increased player counts during the event period. The final MSQ dungeons of every expansion are also featured in addition to The Sunken Temple of Qarn (Hard) and The Wanderer’s Palace (Hard), so pick your favorite and get to farming.

Overall, the best and fastest way to farm Moogle Tomestones is to complete GATEs in the Gold Saucer and cross objectives off your Minimog Challenge list. When you have time, complete the one-time Ultimog Challenge for a big boon of Irregular Tomestones.

While you’re waiting for GATEs to start, queue up for Omega raids. They’re all fairly quick and easy, so just check all of them in the Duty Finder for the fastest queues. If you have a good Blue Mage group, then Qarn is the fastest dungeon to run.

Minimog Challenges and Moogle Objectives Explained

Just like the last Moogle event, there are new ways to earn Tomestones outside of regular duties. While we can expect there to be dungeons and raids dropping tomestones, we’ll now also get tomestones from the following duties:

  • GATEs: the minigames in the Gold Saucer are scheduled for every 20 minutes.
  • Ocean Fishing: the two-hour scheduled expeditions that are great for leveling your Fisher.

Once per week, you’ll now be rewarded if you complete two of these Minimog Challenge activities.

  • FATEs: Given the image depicts a Shadowbringers era FATE, perhaps all the FATEs for Bicolor Gemstone farming (All Shadowbringer/Endwalker areas) will yield Mogtomes.
  • Treasure Maps: where you retrieve treasure maps to gather and assemble a party to hunt down the X to retrieve treasure.
  • Hunt Marks: posted on a board inside a player’s Grand Company, outside the Forgotten Knight in Ishgard, and outside the tavern in Kugane.
  • Triple Triad: open tournament, scheduled every two hours at the Card Square in the Gold Saucer.
  • Even more fishing! Perhaps catching a certain type of Big Fish?

There’s also a new Ultimog challenge, only completable once per event. This is the absolute best way to get Tomestones during the event period, but you can’t farm it over and over.

With all this in mind, the new optimal duties can be estimated as something like this:

  • Completing the Ultimog Challenge.
  • Completing the weekly challenge — Hunt Marks and Open Tournaments would be easiest.
  • Focusing heavily on GATEs along with Ocean Fishing. If you find a dungeon or trial to cheese with Blue Mage, weave it between the 20-minute gap with GATEs for optimal farming.

Overall, this round is certainly not the last one, but there are still a few things of note here. What do you want to get most? If you’re having trouble with particular trials, how about discovering how to unlock the Gilded Araya Trial in Final Fantasy XIV?
