Epic Games: “Maybe Facebook Will Save PC Gaming”

TheSixthAxis is reporting on a forthcoming Edge Magazine interview, in which Epic Games president Mike Capps shares some opinions on the company’s approach to PC gaming.

“We still do PC, we still love the PC,” Capps is reported to have said, followed by several more statements which substantially undermine that claim.

Before getting too indignant, we should perhaps reiterate that SixthAxis is taking selective quotes from an interview that is not yet available in full online.

“People are saying ‘Why do you hate the PC? You’re a console-only company,'” Capps is quoted as saying. “Guess what? … It’s because the money’s on console.”He then appears to blame everything on the shadowy boogie-man of gaming: piracy. “We already saw the impact of piracy … it killed a lot of great independent developers and completely changed our business model.”

Not content with this simplification, Capps remembers it’s fashionable to give Farmville some love and quips “So, maybe Facebook will save PC gaming.”

In response, Valve and Blizzard have reportedly taken the decision to release sequels to Portal and Starcraft exclusively on social networking sites. Except that didn’t happen at all because it would be absolute madness.
