NCsoft has announced on the City of Heroes official forums that due to abuse of a new system in the game, many achievements or ‘Badges’ are being removed.

The new Mission Architect system in CoH allows players to make their own content and share it with others. However, it didn’t take long for people to develop scenarios that could be ‘farmed’, i.e. replayed over and over for experience points, rewards and Badges.

“What this means for the Mission Architect badges is that many of them are going to be removed in Issue 15.” CoH developer Synapse continued “This is because they encouraged farming, because they encouraged aberrant behaviour by doing one thing over and over again, they were unobtainable by a large portion of our players, or earning them was completely out of a player’s hands and in the hands of other players.”

Nearly 90 badges will be removed from the game, a full list can be seen in the forum post on the official CoH forums.
