Alan Wake 2, announced last December, isn’t ready to step out from the shadows just yet. Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that there will be no trailer or demo for Alan Wake 2 this summer, but promises that “development is going really well.” On the cusp of the original game’s 12-year anniversary, the Remedy crew also dropped a video celebrating the series. Creative Director Sam Lake, and the two parts of Alan, sat together to chat Alan Wake 2 development, and shared some concept art. Remedy also confirmed that AMC Networks has signed on for the Alan Wake TV show.
So yes, it’s a lot of Alan Wake news, both good and maybe not as good. For the latter, we’re not going to get a demo or trailer for Alan Wake 2… not just yet. In a statement, Lake mentioned that a “great deal of the game is playable,” however. But he and the team didn’t want to get distracted by making a trailer that’ll “take a lot of effort.”
“To create a proper, polished demo or a trailer takes a lot of effort, and it’s several months of work that could take away from development,” Lake said in the statement. “We feel that we have momentum going, and we want to make sure we are creating the best, and first, survival horror game for Remedy. We don’t want to take the team away from that focus, so we’re going to keep going and making a great game experience, and unfortunately, you’ll have to wait a bit longer for a demo and trailer.”
Quiet horror
No demo or trailer for Alan Wake 2 this summer is a bummer, but the anniversary video will have to do for now. In the video, Lake is joined by the two Wakes: Ilkka Villi, Alan’s face, and Matthew Porretta, the voice. They stop playing Alan Wake Remastered on the Switch (which is now a confirmed release), to go over the upcoming game. Nothing really stunning is shared, as the video is more of a celebration of the series. They also talk about the struggles to get the sequel confirmed. But we did get some concept art to whet the appetite.
The Alan Wake TV show is confirmed to be “still in the works.” Remedy announced that AMC Networks, the home of Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, has purchased the rights to the show. It’s coming along, but there’s “still a long way to go for the series to become a reality.”
