All Limgrave Bosses, Locations, and Drops Elden Ring Guide

Limgrave may be the first region in Elden Ring, but it certainly doesn’t hold back in terms of difficulty. The area is dense with optional dungeons and tricky world bosses, many of which are far, far beyond your capabilities upon first starting the game. And with some bosses requiring you to re-enter the region via warp points or explore particular nooks after nightfall, even the most thorough player may miss one or two while exploring. To that end, we’ve put together the following guide to all of the Limgrave bosses, locations, and drops in Elden Ring.

Major Story Bosses

These are the big ones: the bosses you’ll need to take down to progress the overarching story of Elden Ring. While even these two are technically optional if you’re willing to travel hidden paths and struggle your way through high-level areas, it’s recommended that you take them on for the smoothest possible experience.

Margit, the Fell Omen

The first major roadblock every Elden Ring player faces, Margit is also the boss that typically forces players to explore and level up their character, due to his incredibly high difficulty relative to his early location in the game. You’ll find him in Stormhill, just outside Stormveil Castle, but I’d recommend exploring most of Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula before taking him on.

Godrick the Grafted

Your first encounter with a member of Elden Ring’s pantheon of Demigods does not disappoint. Godrick is the challenging climax of the colossal Stormveil Castle, and he packs a complex moveset and an incredibly cool phase change midway through the fight. He may be the weakest of the Demigods, but he’s still one of the most dangerous foes that Limgrave has to offer.

Dungeon Bosses

These are the bosses you’ll find at the end of the various dungeons in the Limgrave region. There are 10 of these in total, but I’ve included the sole Ruins boss in Limgrave in this category too, for ease of navigation.

Soldier of Godrick

The guardian of the Cave of Knowledge, Elden Ring’s hilariously easy-to-miss tutorial dungeon, the Soldier of Godrick has become something of a meme in the game’s community, owing to the contrast between his presentation as a boss and his incredibly low difficulty. He’s really just a normal enemy with more health, so you should have no trouble taking him down if you know how to hold a controller.

Beastman of Farum Azula

Groveside Cave is one of the very first dungeons you’re likely to stumble upon after starting the game, meaning there’s a very good chance Beastman of Farum Azula will be your first real boss fight. Mechanically it’s nothing special, but it is a nice bit of foreshadowing for the Farum Azula legacy dungeon later on, where this boss will return as a normal enemy.

Black Knife Assassin

The Black Knife Assassins appear throughout Elden Ring, always lurking in the shadows, and you can encounter your first one in Limgrave’s Deathtouched Catacombs. This is a difficult opponent to take on early, thanks to its high speed and relentless attacking style, but builds with high Vigor or heavy shields can trivialize it.

Demi-Human Chief Duo

Your first taste of Elden Ring’s much-maligned duo fights, the Demi-Human Chief duo can be found in the Coastal Cave dungeon, guarding the way to the Church of Dragon Communion. This is a difficult fight, made more so by the normal Demi-Human enemies that also populate the arena, so you’ll need plenty of health and stamina to see it through to the end.

Erdtree Burial Watchdog

A boss you’ll grow very used to seeing by the end of Elden Ring, the Erdtree Burial Watchdog makes its debut in the Stormfoot Catacombs dungeon in Limgrave. Its strange appearance and bizarre attack timings will likely throw you off at first, but once you get used to them this is a fairly straightforward battle.

Grave Warden Duelist

The boss of the Murkwater Catacombs, Grave Warden Duelist is another recurring foe you’ll be seeing more of later. It comes at you with two hammers and an aggressive fighting style, but it can be easily stunned and staggered, making this boss only slightly more difficult than a beefed-up normal enemy.

Guardian Golem

You’ll find the Guardian Golem taking a nap at the end of the surprisingly elaborate Highroad Cave dungeon. It has a surprisingly varied moveset, including fire breath attacks and various attacks with its axe, but all are so well-telegraphed that you should have no problem avoiding them and staggering the Golem for huge critical damage.

Patches

Anyone who’s played any of FromSoftware’s previous titles will immediately recognise this spineless scoundrel when he appears in Murkwater Cave. Patches is unique among bosses in Elden Ring in that he’ll actually give up the fight when he reaches 50% health. At this point, you can choose to spare him, which will allow you to pursue his questline deeper into the game, or kill him, and get a powerful +7 Spear and some other loot as a reward. The former is better in the late game and the latter early, but I’d recommend keeping him alive, since doing so gives you access to the Bull-Goat Armor, the best heavy armor set in the game.

Stonedigger Troll

You’ll see plenty of trolls around Limgrave as you explore, but none are quite as fearsome as the Stonedigger Troll you’ll meet at the end of Limgrave Tunnels. This is an essential dungeon to tackle early, since it gives you access to Smithing Stones you can use to upgrade your starting weapon, but you may want to leave this boss until you’re a bit more prepared.

Ulcerated Tree Spirit

As the high Rune reward implies, the Ulcerated Tree Spirit is a fair bit harder than every other boss in Limgrave. You can find it at the end of the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave, a dungeon accessible right before the First Step site of Grace via a Stonesword Key, and its wild flailing makes it very difficult to keep track of, let alone hit. I’d recommend leaving this one ‘till last among the Limgrave bosses, and it may even be worth returning to it later after you’ve made some progress in Liurnia.

Mad Pumpkin Head

As mentioned above there’s one Ruins boss in Limgrave, and it’s Mad Pumpkin Head. You can find it in the basement of the Waypoint Ruins, and despite its boss status it’s not meaningfully different from the normal enemy versions of Mad Pumpkin Head you can encounter elsewhere in Limgrave. This is a nice, simple fight that makes a great candidate for your first boss in Elden Ring if you’re not quite ready for the Beastman of Farum Azula.

Evergaol Bosses

Evergaol bosses are a new feature in Elden Ring: self-contained boss challenges that can be retried without consequence due to the Stakes of Marika that can always be found nearby. Two of these can be found in Limgrave, and they rank among the most challenging fights the region has to offer.

Bloodhound Knight Darriwil

A boss well-known to Elden Ring veterans due to the power of the Bloodhound’s Fang sword it drops, Bloodhound Knight Darriwil can be found in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol in the south of Limgrave. It can be tricky to take this boss on early due to its high agility, but the Fang is so good that many attempt to do so anyway, particularly in Dexterity-focused runs.

Crucible Knight

No matter how many times I’ve fought the Crucible Knights in Elden Ring, I’ve never quite gotten their patterns down. This is the first one you’ll encounter in the game, inside the Stormhill Evergaol just before Margit, and it’s a serious challenge for new and experienced players alike. It drops a useful Incantation if you can defeat it, but for those not leaning into Faith you can probably leave this one ‘till later.

World Bosses

Elden Ring takes full advantage of its open world by peppering it with world bosses, which you can encounter naturally as you explore. Some of these patrol specific areas, and some can only be encountered at specific times of day, but all are worth taking on for their Rune payouts and unique drops.

Grafted Scion

The first thing you’ll do in Elden Ring, after going down some stairs and crossing a bridge, is get torn to shreds by this terrifying boss. While you can technically defeat the Grafted Scion at this first meeting, it’s definitely a supposed-to-lose fight, and the vast majority of players will fight it properly after traveling to the Chapel of Anticipation via one of Liurnia’s Four Belfries. You could argue that this makes it a Liurnia boss rather than a Limgrave one, but it’s included here for posterity regardless.

Tree Sentinel

As if the Grafted Scion wasn’t enough, you’ll get a second taste of Elden Ring’s cruelty upon encountering the Tree Sentinel for the first time. This powerful mounted foe patrols the area right next to the first Site of Grace you’ll find after the tutorial, and it will absolutely decimate you if you attempt to take it on at this point. Even post-Godrick and Weeping Peninsula it still poses a challenge, so don’t feel bad about sneaking past this one early on.

Flying Dragon Agheel

Elden Ring does dragon fights better than any other game in FromSoftware’s lineup thanks to the addition of Torrent, and Flying Dragon Agheel is the first one you’ll get to take on. You can find Agheel, appropriately enough, in the middle of Agheel Lake, just a short walk from the tutorial area. You’ll want to wait until you’ve acquired Torrent and built up your level a bit before challenging it, however, lest you end up the crispiest Tarnished in the Lands Between.

Tibia Mariner

One of Elden Ring’s big sidequests involves you collecting Deathroot and delivering it to Gurranq, Beast Clergyman in Caelid for rewards. You can find Deathroot in Catacomb dungeons, but also by defeating Tibia Mariners, which appear in haunted villages throughout Elden Ring’s world. You’ll find the first one in Limgrave’s Summonwater Village, and it shouldn’t pose much of a challenge. Keep an eye on the skeletons it summons though, since they can catch you off-guard if you’re unprepared.

Night’s Cavalry

The above World Bosses are available to fight any time of day, but the last three on this list can only be encountered at night, meaning you’ll need to rest at a Site of Grace and pass time in order to bring them forth. The Night’s Cavalry is the first of these you’re likely to encounter. You’ll find it patrolling the bridge north of Agheel Lake at night, south of the Site of Grace where Melina gives you access to Torrent. Despite being a mounted foe, it’s actually easier to take on this boss on foot, and this remains the case for the many future Night’s Cavalry encounters in the game as well.

Deathbird

Another nocturnal boss, you’ll find the Deathbird south-east of the Warmaster’s Shack Site of Grace at night. It’s a surprisingly tricky boss, and surprisingly scary too, particularly if you just happen upon it unexpectedly. Once you get its pattern down it should be no problem, however: just make sure you don’t aggro the giant or other enemies nearby.

Bell Bearing Hunter

Bearing a strong resemblance to the Shaded Castle’s Elemer of the Briar, the Bell Bearing Hunters can be found across Elden Ring’s regions, always at a merchant’s shack, and always at night. The first one can be found at Limgrave’s Warmaster’s Shack, provided you’ve entered Stormveil Castle at least once that is. To summon it, pass time to nightfall at the Warmaster’s Shack Site of Grace, then rest at it again. Head over to where Knight Bernahl is usually standing, and the Hunter will spawn in. It has an array of powerful ranged and melee attacks, and is best saved until you’ve cleared out the rest of Limgrave, particularly since the rewards for defeating it are relatively minor given the effort required to do so.
