It’s a lot easier than you may realize. But if you’re used to the keyboard and mouse UI, here’s how to check Spell Slots in controller mode.

How to see Spell Slots outside of combat on consoles in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)

Although BG3 is best optimized on PC, including its UI, Larian Studios did a pretty good job making it work for consoles. You can check your Spell Slots out of combat on consoles for Baldur’s Gate 3 by pressing “R1” or “RB” on your controller and looking at the bottom of the screen.

While in combat, you can always see your Action, Bonus Action, and even Spell Slots. This depends on which character you’re controlling, especially if they have other abilities. But when out of combat, you can easily check your Spell Slots by opening the action wheel.

It’s not on the wheel itself, but on the bar at the bottom of your screen. You should then see the same things: Action, Bonus Action, movement, then Spell Slots. The blue rectangles indicate spells left, while the greyed-out ones indicate expended slots.

You can even check for other slots like a Druid’s Wild Shape slots, or your Barbarian’s Rage slots. And your Spell Slots here are nicely separated by slot level.

Triggering your action wheel should be in the same place on any controller. On PlayStation 5, press “R1” but on Xbox Series X|S it’s “RB.” Same button, different names. And of course, if you’re on PC but using a controller it depends on whether it’s an Xbox or PlayStation controller.
