Baldur’s Gate 3: How to open the vault door in the Counting House

Bank robbery time!

The Counting House in Baldur’s Gate 3 is Baldur’s Gate’s central bank. You’ll probably find yourself there while pursuing Jaheira’s quest to find the Stone Lord. This eventually leads to Minsc, so if you want him as a companion, you’ll want to help out Jaheira. Eventually, you need to break into a vault to find the Stone Lord, but there’s a confusing puzzle on the ground that requires a four-digit code. Once you gain access to the Counting House vault, you’ll see nine pedestals on the ground representing the numbers one to nine. But what could the code even be? How you can open the Baldur’s Gate 3 vault door in the Counting House is by finding the code in the Head Banker’s Office.

If you head to the second floor of the Counting House, you’ll find the Head Banker’s Office with two guards taking watch. Getting past them would normally be nearly impossible, but if you have some tricks up your sleeve, it can be easy. I recommend only bringing one person with you, someone stealthy like Astarion, and make them invisible. The best spell for this is Greater Invisibility, who someone like Gale should have.

Now, just unlock the door with Thieves’ Tools, and inside you’ll find a book that gives you the code. The Counting House vault door code is 1-3-5-6. All you have to do now is make the stealthy character return to the party, and you can put in the code.

To do this, make sure Group mode is turned off, and have one character at a time stand on the numbered pedestals in order. I know the icons may look confusing, but you can tell how the numbers go by reading the first few. Numbers one to three go from left to right at the top, four to six below that, then seven to nine at the bottom row.

Start by standing on the number one spot, then three, five, and lastly six. Make sure no one accidentally steps on a wrong number, or else you must start over. Once everyone is in the right place, the vault door should open, and you’re free to enter!
